About

Introducing me…I’m Kate Hepburn, a full time creator of things that I feel the world needs more of. I work from my studio on our lifestyle property in the peaceful Rangitumau Valley, near Masterton.
My work as a potter is often experimental, with an element of quirkiness and fun, because, why not?
I’m mostly inspired by the landscape and it's many changing colors and layers, and also by our lived experiences which, any way you look at it, create the foundations which make us who we are. For me both Shrek and Dr Seuss make sense so I guess they also both inspire my work along with the everyday way I see the world around me. My love for nature and the way animals fit into it and it's colour and form have a huge influence on my work. I love creating unique and functional pottery with some funky designs and experimenting with all sorts of clay, glazes and styles.
An exciting part of my work is digging clay from our own land and processing it in my studio, allowing me to create pieces that truly embody the spirit of my environment.
I also teach pottery in individual or group sessions, where people turn up as students and leave as friends.
I am in my happy place when I am playing with clay, one of my biggest delights is when I open a kiln that has been fired and see what colours and designs have been created.
When you buy a piece of my pottery you can be sure to have a unique piece where art, function and beauty meet.
Enjoy my work.
